Grants for Creative and Cultural Resilience in Times of Disruption in North Carolina (USA)
GrantID: 74785
Grant Funding Amount Low: $100
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $1,000
Summary
This grant opportunity offers targeted financial assistance to individual professional artists located within federally designated disaster areas in a multi-state region impacted by recent hurricanes. The purpose is to support artists who depend on their creative practice for income and have suffered losses affecting their studios, supplies, equipment, or artistic resilience.
Eligible applicants must be adults actively engaged in an artistic discipline—such as visual arts, performing arts, media, literary arts, craft, or interdisciplinary forms—and must reside in areas formally recognized by FEMA as disaster zones. Individuals who have previously received relief or recovery support from the administering organization or certain partner entities are not eligible. This ensures that resources reach artists who have not yet accessed aid from similar programs.
Grantees receive $1,000 each to help mitigate disaster-related impacts through preparedness activities rather than directly funding new creative projects. Supported uses include purchasing emergency tools or safety supplies, upgrading studio health and safety, consulting for business continuity, increasing insurance coverage, digitizing artwork or records, improving secure archiving, and engaging in financial or contingency planning. Funds cannot be used for production of art, debris removal, construction, cosmetic renovations, vehicle repairs, living expenses, or health-related costs.
Applications undergo an internal review process assessing residency verification, professional practice, and prior funding history. Recommendations are made with priority given to applicants within the hardest-hit zones. Funding is awarded contingent on resource availability, with award decisions communicated following the review period.
Successful applicants must submit signed award agreements and relevant tax and payment forms. Recipients must implement specified preparedness activities within a defined timeframe and submit a final report with receipts to document use of funds. This opportunity provides essential, responsive support to artists striving to protect their practice and livelihood in the face of disaster, helping them safeguard creative spaces, fortify operations, and prepare for future challenges.
